Through this short course skill set, you'll gain a range of skills, knowledge and experience that will set you up to start a traineeship in early childhood education and care — you will also enjoy several weeks of work placement in an early education centre, where you will gain hands on skills and experience working with children. The skill set contains nationally recognised and accredited units of competency. You'll gain an understanding of children’s learning, basic learning support, identifying and responding to children at risk, and workplace health and safety — and much more! It is the perfect stepping stone to start your career, preparing you for an employment-based traineeship or further study.

Timeframe - This Introductory Skill Set course is completed over a 10-week timeframe.

Mandatory workplace hours

It is a requirement that you complete 90 hours of work placement in a regulated Education and Care service during your studies.

This skill set will be delivered as a Job Ready pilot program. The skill set is designed to provide entry level training to enter an Early Childhood Educator traineeship. The program will include a work placement.

One Tree Community Services are offering a part time (over10 weeks) Skill Set program in Karratha and surrounding areas including Damper, Wickham and Roebourne. It will include face to face classroom delivery over two days at six hours per day in Karratha. Practical hours (90) to be completed over two to three days in a regulated education and care service over the ten weeks. Experienced qualified trainers will be available for all training hours in the class room and further support and mentoring in the workplace. This Skill Set includes four nationally recognised units of competency that will provide you with entry level skills to work in an Early Childhood Education and care setting and will give you credit towards a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and care. Employment and traineeships may be offered once Skill Set is completed. This Skill Set is expected to start in October 2023.

This introductory skill set is fee free and will also include two weeks work placement/work experience. If you wish to continue in the industry/training, the units completed will count towards the Certificate III traineeship qualification. New course starts each month.
