Through this nationally recognised training, you'll get the skills you need to manage your department or even the whole venue with a high level knowledge of the hospitality industry in Australia. You will be able to develop your skills in leadership, communication, and business administration, as well as gain high level skills in customer service management, budgeting and financial management, rostering, risk management and compliance. Depending on your training provider, you will be able to choose additional electives to support your carer in commercial cookery, food and beverage, gaming, accommodation services, or back of house.

When you complete the Diploma of Hospitality Management you will be able to work as a functions manager, restaurant manager, or front office manager.

You will gain a broad range of managerial and industry specific hospitality skills, in order to coordinate hospitality operations. On successful completion you will be able to work independently, have responsibility for others and be able to make operational business decisions. ​

NMTAFE provides exceptional training with industry current lecturing staff and you will gain practical restaurant experience while training in The Pavilion Restaurant, our fine dining, à la carte training restaurant that is open to the public.

When applying for this course, prior study within the industry will be considered. Where there is limited study, you may be directed into a more suitable level course.

Throughout this course, you will build on your existing hospitality knowledge while developing skills in planningleadingimplementing and monitoring staff and business operations. You will learn about operational planning, managing budgets, implementing regulatory requirements and work health and safety practices, and techniques for enhancing the overall customer experience. You will also learn how to lead a team of staff, prepare rosters and manage workplace conflict and diversity.  

As part of this course, you will complete a knowledge assessment and be observed completing pre-determined tasks on the job for each unit of study.

You'll also be equipped with strong hospitality technical skills and be trained in a diverse range of areas from processing reservations, to food and beverage preparation, to general bar and restaurant service.

The hospitality, tourism and events industries are the world's largest employers and this course will give you a supervisory qualification to work in settings such as restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, pubs and in gaming, or at hotels in front-of-house areas including concierge and back-of-house areas such as housekeeping.

Learn in the real-life setting of our award-winning Bentley Pines Training Restaurant which provides a live, interactive training environment at SM TAFE’s Bentley campus. Students can gain hands-on experience serving and preparing food for members of the public, as well as showcasing their skills planning a menu and advertising special events to the community.
