This nationally recognised qualification has a focus on financial counselling in context of community service, assisting clients experiencing financial issues who need help managing debt and other financial matters.
Financial counsellors work across a variety of metropolitan, regional and remote settings and can assist both individuals and small businesses.
You'll gain the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to crisis situations and build effective counselling relationships. The course includes practical work placement with a financial counselling agency. You'll also learn how to perform financial calculations, and prepare and monitor budgets and financial reports with clients.

Financial counsellors help people to manage their finances and understand credit and debt issues as well as their rights and obligations. To be able to operate in Australia as a financial counsellor, you must have this qualification.
SM TAFE is the only registered training organisation in WA to deliver this course face-to-face, allowing more people to utilise this important service while the WA economy recovers. It also provides a solid understanding of social and systemic issues that impact on financial counselling clients. At the end of this course, you will have gained the skills and knowledge to provide advice, counselling and representation to financial counselling clients, as well as provide systematic advocacy within a social justice framework.
