This qualification has been tailored to reflect the needs of the ICT networking support workforce. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be competent in a wide range of general information and ICT technical functions. Participants will be able to develop, rectify and manage computer networks as required by their organisation, as well as liaise with third-party ICT service providers.

Information technology has the opportunity for both generalist and specialist information technology workers. Completion of this qualification allows learners to choose their area. It also opens up a range of further study options, including specialist certificates and higher level qualifications.

Certificate IV in Information Technology is available for trainees only. It is not available online for the public.

The Centre for IT Excellence (CITE) at both the Thornlie and Rockingham campuses provides state of the art, industry relevant training in information technology and creative media. Available pathways are from foundation studies to advanced diploma with specialist training in networking, cyber security, systems support, cloud engineering and programming.

Our state-of-the-art Training Cyber Security Operations Centre (TCSOC) at Murdoch provides a secure training environment designed to simulate realistic cyber-attacks relating to attack, defence and monitoring. The TCSOC provides a multi-campus centre based in Murdoch with ‘nodes’ at Thornlie and Rockingham campuses in order for all IT students to experience this leading edge training.

When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in Information Technology. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are job ready and competent in a wide range of information and communications technology (ICT) roles and apply a broad range of skills in varied work contexts, using problem solving skills and effective communication with others.

 You will have the skills and knowledge necessary for database development such as interpreting specifications, technical designs and flow charts, scripting database creation and manipulation modifying software applications, constructing technical specifications from models as well as testing, and writing technical documents. Additionally, you will learn skills related to database management such as managing, cleaning, storing, and verifying organisational data as well as evaluating compliance with internal and external data ethics regulations and legislation.

Students also learn systems administration support skills to implement maintenance procedures and support to help troubleshoot system applications.

 Specialisations are available in:

Networking - involving installation, configuration and testing of organisation-hosted and cloud-hosted networks and servers; as well as

Programming - in a range of modern object-oriented languages, analysing client requirements to design, build, test and deploy software applications in Mobile Apps, Websites & Web Apps, Desktop Apps, Console Apps & Services and Device/Robotic Controllers.
