The Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas - Electrical qualification is a nationally endorsed course to upskill licensed electricians.

Develop your skills and learn to supervise selection, installation, commissioning maintenance and testing of explosion-protected equipment and systems for control and monitoring of plant and processes. You'll also gain competencies in working with explosion protections techniques regarding how they apply to coal mining, gas and dust environments.

This certification includes ERAC requirements for an Electrician’s Licence; and competencies to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain stand alone renewable energy equipment and systems.

This course gives students the competency to undertake electrical work in a hazardous area aligning to the requirements outlined in AS/NZS 4761 Competencies for working with electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA). The qualification provides competencies in working with explosion-protection techniques. It includes requirements and competencies to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain energy equipment and systems.

The Certificate IV in Hazardous Areas – Electrical provides licensed electricians with a pathway to a nationally recognised qualification relevant to their work in explosive atmospheres. This qualification provides competencies related to the selection, installation, maintenance, inspection and testing of explosion-protected equipment and systems for control and monitoring of plant and processes.

UEE42622 qualification provides competencies to supervise selection, installation, commissioning maintenance and testing of explosion-protected equipment and systems for control and monitoring of plant and processes, and it covers the following skills:

  • Prepare Hazardous Areas Verification Dossier (HAVD) and its upkeep.
  • Identify the hazardous areas and equipment compliance to AS/NZS 60079.14 and AS/NZS 60079.17
  • Provide EEHA remedial solutions and supervise EEHA/ sign off remediation compliance work.

Explosion protection includes techniques and technology that could prevent the electrical equipment from igniting flammable materials and dust in hazardous areas. As per AS/NZS 60079.14 standards Clause 4.5, design of the installation, the selection of equipment and the erection shall be carried out only by persons whose training has included instruction on the various types of protection and installation practices, relevant rules, and regulations and on the general principles of area classification. There is a growing demand for qualified Electricians, Instrumentation Technicians and Electrical Engineers to provide advice regarding explosion protection in electrical equipment and instrumentation. This qualification provides competencies in working with explosion protections techniques with selections in how they apply to coal mining, gas, and dust atmospheres. With significant growth in the oil and gas, petrochemical and mineral processing industry in Australia, development in explosion protection technologies is quite significant too.
