A Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy will give you the skills to work as a beauty therapist and provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing. Learn to communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.

You will also learn a broad range of skilled applications, including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices, and some provision of leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of skills.

When you complete the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy, you will have the skills necessary to provide your customers with a professional range of beauty treatments and services. This course will also give you the skills to start up your own business and to work in industry. You will learn the tips of the small business promotion to be successful in a very competitive market.

You will study theoretical and practical components, demonstrating these under salon conditions. Our professional teaching staff will work with you to ensure you are competent and able to manage the rigours of the beauty industry.

Please note this course is only offered as a Traineeship.

There are also options of gaining further skills in areas such as ear piercing and eyelash extensions.

You will cover new areas of beauty therapy and gain hands on experience in a simulated work environment where you will perform simple tasks on real clients. Students will provide these services to paying customers as part of their experiences using North Regional TAFE's (NR TAFE) commercial salons on campus.

Participants who complete the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy will have the skills necessary to provide customers with a professional range of beauty treatments and services.

When you complete the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy you will be looking at a career as a beauty therapist in a beauty salon, cruise ship or even your own home salon. 

Be guided by our professional and passionate team of lecturers who are experienced industry specialists. You’ll learn how to provide a range of beauty treatments, including facials and specialised facials for glowing skin, as well as body massage and aromatherapy massage for ultimate relaxation. Develop your manicure and pedicure skills, gain skills in popular services such as waxing, lash and brow tinting and lifting, spray tans, eyelash extensions and professional make-up application.

Grow an understanding of retail operations for the beauty industry and establish a customer service skillset, learning how to create a positive client experience and leave a lasting impression. Your skills will allow you to perform treatments independently and you’ll be trained in coordinating or managing the services within a beauty salon or a department within a larger store.

At SM TAFE your fees are inclusive of all training products and equipment for the entirety of your course. You will receive a take home makeup brush set to start you on your makeup journey. Additional purchases include a beauty tunic, textbook and linen for class use.
