An essential support service for the health industry

Did you know that over one quarter of all people admitted to hospital have an operation? Many more have treatments that require sterile equipment to be used. You could assist in ensuring that patients are protected from infection during their care.

Being able to work with others and carry out your work safely is an important part of sterilisation work and is covered in this course.

On completion of your course you will be able to work in a private or public hospital, a clinic or an operating theatre sterile supply department.

This nationally recognised course provides a specialised skillset to assist medical and nursing staff to help protect patients from infection.

Students will learn how to clean, disinfect and sterilise reusable medical devices for preparation prior to operational procedures and surgeries.

Begin a career journey to become a sterilisation technician and gain skills in using a variety of advanced techniques to remove every possible contaminant according to infection prevention and control policies.

Learn how to work safely in the field and play an important role in patient care.

 

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to work in a Hospital Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) or Theatre Sterile Supply Unit (TSSU).

You will learn about infection control policies and procedures, and safe occupational health practices. You will learn skills to clean and disinfect re-usable medical devices and equipment and care for surgical instruments.

The course covers cleaning and disinfecting reusable medical devices, using chemicals, sterilising loads, and managing sterilised stock.
