As a phlebotomist (pathology collector) you'll interact with a wide variety of people while performing specimen collection, a vital part on their way to a better health status.

You'll provide this assistance by

This qualification reflects the role of pathology collectors. Workers in this role follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for their own work under general supervision. This qualification equips students with practical skills in drawing blood, administering first aid, participating in workplace health and safety, implementing infection control and more. This qualification can be delivered in the workplace under a traineeship arrangement, and also in a classroom setting at the Osborne Park Training Centre. The course is designed to provide hands-on industry experience and focuses on promoting technical skills and effective communication techniques, preparing students for work in a variety of medical environments, including pathology collection centres, GP clinics, specialist rooms, hospitals, and other public and private health settings. Students are assessed on their performance in practical and written assessments; online learning modules; and a minimum of 20 live blood collections conducted in simulated and actual clinical work environments (work insurance cover is provided and paid for by LTT for the duration of work placement). Students must provide evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (or a valid medical exemption form) to be permitted to complete work placement with most clinical providers in Australia, including LTT’s health industry partners. Work placement is a mandatory component of the HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection and as such, the qualification cannot be awarded to any student who has not completed the required hours. No prior qualifications are required to study this qualification, however basic to intermediate computer literacy is advantageous.
