This qualification, available as an apprenticeship, provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work.

Through hands on training, you'll gain the skills and knowledge to do a wide scope of work in the painting and decorating industry — preparing surfaces; applying paint by brushes, rollers and, spray guns; hanging wallpaper; and making highlight walls. You'll also learn to perform measurements and calculations, and read and interpret building plans and specifications. 

You'll also learn how to erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding; work safely at heights; plan and organise work; handle and store painting and decorating materials; use painting and decorating tools and materials, and much more!

A painting apprenticeship is a practical, hands on training program where you are paid while you learn. As an apprentice, you are contracted to an employer to learn all about your chosen trade and become qualified in that trade. Our apprenticeships are delivered under a competency based flexible training system. Workplace and off-the-job training and assessment procedures have been introduced based on the skills an apprentice should acquire over the term of the apprenticeship.
