You'll gain the skills and knowledge needed  to work as a production operator; mineral processing technician; or a quarry mobile plant or surface coal operator.

In addition to learning workplace health and safety regulations and risk management, you'll also learn how to identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns; workplace communication and teamwork; and on-site processes and procedures. Depending on where you study, you can also choose electives including hydraulic excavation; grader and haul truck operations; operating tracked and wheeled dozers; and more!

The RII30120 Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations reflects the role of individuals such as production operators, working in open cut coal or metalliferous mines or quarries, who perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures. This qualification is available for sites that wish to provide this for their employees.
This qualification is suitable for participants who are already working on a mine site and are over 18 years old.
Students completing this program will participate in supported online learning and complete practical assessments onsite or at Mine Training Australia’s facilities in Osborne Park. Some students may be eligible for RPL depending on their skills and knowledge. The duration will vary depending on operator experience and elective units chosen.
