This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.
This course includes a compulsory work placement.

This course is Competitive at selected campuses and further Entrance Requirements may apply.

Course description

Centacare’s Certificate III in Individual Support is delivered face-to-face from our state-of-the-art training facilities and will get you qualified for entry-level jobs in the growing health and disability sectors.

Centacare offers all three specialisations in this course. You can choose from:

  • Ageing – get qualified for work in the aged care sector and learn how to provide effective support to people living in aged care facilities.
  • Disability – get qualified for work in the disability services sector, helping to empower and support people living with disabilities.
  • Home and Community – get qualified for work in the health sector and learn to provide effective support to people in a home or community environment.

The course includes 120 hours of work experience with a service provider related to your chosen specialisation, which is all organised by Centacare on your behalf.

You can learn:

  • how to support independence and wellbeing;
  • activities and skills to support daily living needs;
  • manual handling techniques;
  • how to practise infection control;
  • basic medical and industry terminology, and much more.

This course can be a pathway to a career in nursing and is delivered across both PIT and Participation Equity funding programs. This course may be free or subsidised for eligible students – please contact us for more information.
