This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as an Engineering Tradesperson – Fabrication within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or other industries where Engineering Tradespersons – Fabrication work. The qualification has been specifically developed to meet the needs of apprentices in the above trade.

Trade specialisation Units of Competency that we offer suit surface finishers including electroplaters, galvanisers, powder coaters and industrial painter/blasters.

The qualification packaging has been developed on an assumption that competency will be developed through an integrated combination of on and off-the-job learning strategies such as those delivered through a formal apprenticeship.

We provide training and assessment in the apprentice’s workplace.

The qualification may also be achieved through formal skills recognition assessment processes such as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  Under an apprenticeship, RPL may be provided for some of the qualification where appropriate, with training and assessment provided for the remainder.

Apprentices may take 6-48 months (according to apprenticeship requirements) to complete the curriculum. The enrolment term will depend on the current skills and knowledge of the apprentice and is negotiated with the apprentice and the employer.

The Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Surface Finishing) is an apprenticeship: you must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study. Please see the Apprenticeships section for more information.
