This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in performing core skills in outdoor recreation environments and assisting with the conduct of a range of outdoor activities.

Work may be undertaken as part of a team and would be performed under supervision. Work would be undertaken in field locations such as camps or in indoor recreation centres or facilities, in differing environments such as water-based, dry land and mountainous terrains, using a diverse range of equipment.

This qualification will provide students with the practical skills and knowledge to work as an assistant guide in the Marine Tourism, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation industry

The core skills covered are the fundamentals of snorkelling and kayaking, minimal impact, fishing, assisting in planning and running outdoor activities, food preparation on a vessel, safety and first aid, elements of shipboard safety.

Scuba diving is also offered as an optional addition to the course, with the capacity for you to train up to a level that will allow you to work as a dive guide on an international level.

This qualification will prepare you for the certificate III in Outdoor Recreation
