This course is a very hands-on, practical course that provides students with a great insight into the Dental Profession and the specialist areas associated. Students will learn the skills to be a (Dental Nurse) Dental Assistant who provides an advanced level of assistance to a Dentist, Dental Specialist, Dental Hygienist or Dental Therapist, which contributes to the quality of oral health care. Their role includes reassuring the patients, mixing dental materials, preparing for dental procedures, passing instruments, maintaining high standards of infection control, advising patients on Preventive Dentistry. Additional advanced skills are attained in Orthodontics, Oral Surgery Dental Health Care Education and certain practice management skills for the dental sector. The course is conducted over 1 school year with 250 hrs work experience components embedded in the course. Employment assistance provided.

As a Dental Assistant, you will be responsible for preparing the surgery, assisting the dentist chair side, processing and sterilising all of the instruments and cleaning the surgery. Reception work and the management of supplies are other skills you will develop.

Our dental assisting qualification provides you with skills that are relevant to current industry trends and practices. By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Work in general and specialised dentistry
  • Conduct infection control
  • Produce a dental chart
  • Engage in dental radiography
  • Understand microbiology
  • Implement Workplace Health and Safety
  • Engage in dental practice administration
  • Fabricate dental models and trays and make mouthguards
