Our PMA40116 Certificate IV in Process Plant Operations is a technical qualification for advanced operators and operations technicians who use production equipment to directly produce product. Technicians undertaking the course will typically be involved in solving complex problems requiring theoretical knowledge, combined with an understanding of the production process and equipment across the plant. It is especially suited to advanced operators and/or operations technicians who are wanting to further their career in a supervisory or team leader role. This qualification is customisable based on your company requirements. People with this qualification may be expected to work in one of the following sectors:

  • fine chemicals
  • heavy chemicals
  • petrochemicals
  • hydrocarbon extraction
  • hydrocarbon transmission
  • hydrocarbon processing/refining
  • minerals processing/refining
  • metalliferous processing/refining
  • metals smelting/processing
  • other related areas

There are a number of delivery options to complete this qualification:

  • a) Through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) only; this program is suited to existing workers in the chemical, hydrocarbons or refining sectors, or similar industries. Completion will require third party verification and submission of workplace evidence.
  • b) Flexible delivery including using open learning, RPL or a combination of both. This program will include workplace assignments and third party verification. Again, this option is suited to existing workers in the chemical, hydrocarbons or refining sectors, or similar industries.
  • c) Company based Traineeship consisting of units of competency chosen by your employer. This program will include a total of eight (8) weeks spent on campus (ACEPT Munster), split into two week block releases, twice a year, over two years. All assignments are to be completed in the workplace. Please see the Apprenticeships/Traineeships section for more information.
