Unleash your inner creative with an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. Visual artists work within and across many mediums, and their practice may incorporate ceramics, digital art, glasswork, drawing and illustration, jewellery making, painting, photomedia, printmaking, public art, sculpture, textiles or wood design. Visual artists may work in their own practice, or a wide range of contexts across the arts, government or commercial organisations and also bring visual arts perspective to areas such as business, community services and science.

Entry requirements

A formal interview process will be an entry inclusion into the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. Students are to present a portfolio that demonstrates para-professional level work creatively, technically and conceptually. Students are required to participate in the interview process with questions related directly to their arts practice and their own creative vision.

Refine your visual arts skills in the creative and cultural heart of the city

The Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts will prepare you for professional practice as a contemporary artist. You will explore, practice and demonstrate what it is to be a visual arts practitioner and gain a variety of skills and knowledge to be self-sufficient upon graduation.

You will study in our purpose built art and craft facilities and have access to a high standard of equipment. North Metro TAFE’s Visual Art and Design portfolio has a 100 year history and you will benefit from the close proximity to the Perth Cultural Centre which is home to the Art Gallery of WA, PICA and many other smaller galleries.

As a visual artist you may work in your own practice, or in a wide range of contexts across the arts, government or commercial organisations; bringing a visual arts perspective to areas such as business, community services and science.

Please note: To gain entrance to this course you will need to have either completed CUA51115 Diploma of Visual Arts OR provide a portfolio showing you have the conceptual, technical and organisational skills to create and present work in your chosen creative form. Your portfolio may show these skills have been acquired through formal study or through experience in a creative field. You will also need to have completed the following pre-requisite unit CUAPPR505Establish and maintain safecreative practice. Please contact us to discuss with the Head of Program for Visual Art.
