Do you want a career in body therapies? Are you interested in learning different massage techniques?
This qualification will teach you how to manipulate the soft tissue, ligaments, muscle, fascia and tendons for the treatment of muscular dysfunction. Therapeutic massage is increasingly becoming a part of our fast paced lives and the need for skilled practitioners is growing with it. During this qualification you will be required to conduct and complete a large number of massages in our on-campus clinic, which is open to the public.This on-the-job experience will give you relevant skills and prepare you for a career in remedial massage upon completion of your Diploma. Practical massage skills are put to the test via hands-on demonstrations and remedial massage treatments. You will gain skills as a Remedial massage therapist including; a range of movement techniques, manual lymphatic drainage massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and G5 mechanical massage.

Important Information : Intake for this course is every 18 months. The next intake for this course is scheduled for Semester 1, 2019 pending enrolment numbers.

North Metropolitan TAFE

Get national accreditation as a health care provider.

This course will provide you with the latest remedial massage techniques. Whilst studying you will practice in a variety of clinical and sporting environments with clients ranging from people with disabilities to elite athletes - we are affiliated with Western Australian professional sporting teams such as the Perth Wildcats, Perth Lynx, Perth Glory, Fremantle Dockers and the WA Female AFL Academy.

You will have access to facilities and resources including an on-campus library, student support services and the University of Western Australia’s wet labs.

During the first two weeks of study (Monday to Friday 9am-4pm) you will gain the practical foundations of massage preparing you for practice in our Live-Works Clinic. A compulsory and highly valuable part of the course is a weekly supervised shift in the clinic that is open Wednesday and Thursday 2pm – 7:30pm, Friday 1pm – 6:30pm and Saturday 9am - 1pm.

From week three onwards, you are on campus three to four days a week and classes are a mixture of practical and theoretical work. During the course you will also need to obtain your Senior First Aid certificate with another recognised training provider.

On completion of this course you are able to apply for and receive a private health care provider number from the nationally accredited massage associations.
