The majority of this course is self-paced via our online learning platform. Students will work through the learning material and then complete the set tasks and activities outlined. Assessment is conducted by knowledge questions and practical tasks or projects. These may be assessed in the workplace or on campus through a real or simulated activity.

An essential part of this course is to undertake a work placement in the industry. If you are not already working in the industry, your lecturer can assist in finding a work placement. The work placement chosen must meet the requirements of the course. Your lecturer can assist with deciding which organisations may suitable.

This qualification gives you the opportunity to work in the varied tourism industry sectors and for diverse employers including tour operators, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, at attractions, cultural and heritage sites and any small tourism businesses requiring multi-skilled employees.

Work could be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered or a combination of both. Job roles: attraction or theme park attendant, booking agent, cellar door salesperson, guide in a winery, guide and salesperson in an indigenous cultural centre, inbound tour coordinator, museum attendant, operations consultant or reservation sales agent for a tour operator, sales consultant, senior ride operator in an attraction or theme park, and visitor information officer.

This Qualification is also available as a Traineeship. To study as a Trainee, you must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation. Please see the Apprenticeships/Traineeships section for more information.
