This course is for those wanting to rise through the ranks and become leading hands and supervisors within the aquaculture industry responsible for decision making and coordinating some team activities such as feeding, construction, managing live feeds and overseeing water quality monitoring.

You will gain knowledge and skills in:

  • Coordinating fish farming activities
  • Monitoring and implementing emergency and safety procedures
  • Controlling pests, predators and disease
  • Handling food
  • Handling and harvesting stock
  • Maintaining water environments, and
  • Applying chemicals and biological agents.

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to care for and maintain fish stocks. Subjects include those covered in Certificate II in Seafood Industry (Aquaculture), plus you will learn skills in monitoring the treatment of waste disposal, coordinating fish farming activities, and monitoring and implementing emergency and safety procedures.

Our lecturers are happy to speak to individuals to contextualise training delivery where possible. Programs can also be tailored to suit traineeships or gap skills building in the commercial sector.

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to care for and maintain fish stocks. Do you want to further your knowledge of the Aquaculture Industry? Are you interested in sustainable food sources?

This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to care for and maintain fish stocks.

You will gain skills in:

  • Installing or constructing stock culture or holding structures and other allied structures

Maintaining the culture or holding environment by:

  • Treating and disposing of effluent and wastes
  • Monitoring environmental conditions
  • Maintaining water quality

Overseeing stock-related activities, such as:

  • Feeding, handling, harvesting and controlling predators, pests and diseases

Responsibility for:

  • Operating high technology water treatment components
  • Implementing emergency procedures, occupational health and safety policies and guidelines.

Prospective students should have already achieved,Certificate II in Aquaculture or have some existing experience in the aquaculture industry before applying for entry into this qualification.

This Qualification is also available as a Traineeship. To study as a Trainee, you must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation. Please see the Apprenticeships/Traineeships section for more information.
