This is the benchmark qualification for people considering obtaining a builder registration in WA and higher qualification within the building industry. This relates to both low and medium rise construction and exposes you to how the industry works and the skills required. This qualification is designed to reflect the role of open class builders and site managers in the industry sector.

Builders manage the entire process of building houses and low rise construction, usually undertaking supervisory roles. A builder may perform but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Project Management skills
  • Interpret building plans, regulations and codes of practice in order to direct the progress of work and monitor compliance with construction documents and the Building Code of Australia (BCA)
  • Estimate and prepare tenders
  • Arrange supplies of material and equipment
  • Construction programs
  • Supervise site works and the coordination of building workers. Record building progress and variations from the design drawings or specifications

  • Manage finances
  • Manage work groups
  • Safety management plans and construction safety
