The Nationally Recognised Certificate IV in Ageing Support qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services in either residential facilities or home-based care.

The delivery of this qualification is through a blended delivery mode of regular attendance to face to face workshops and self-study. Each workshop each is delivered in our purpose built Training Institute.  The total duration for this qualification may be between 6 to 12 months for completion and can be completed at a pace that suits the individual student:

  • Face to face clustered lecturer/trainer directed workshops
  • Workshop based practical skills and written assessments
  • Post course assignments
  • On the job training/assessments

The training will prepare students for work, career progression or further study within a care environment including a pathway into nursing qualifications. This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to plan, develop, implement and monitor programs and services for older people. You will learn skills to assess the needs of older people with complex circumstances and plan and conduct group and recreation programs for older people. You will also learn how to monitor services, implement and monitor health and safety policies and procedures and organise an effective work environment. As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge the participant would have gained in Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate III in Aged Care.

The units of study are more demanding and provide a deeper understanding of the issues concerning aged clients and service provision for this target group. Graduates will be able to enter the workforce as direct service providers in an agency that provides services to aged persons.

Note:

  • Graduates aged 20 years and over are generally preferred for employment in this industry, and most employers will not employ minors. Therefore students under the age of 18 might not be able to meet the workplace assessment requirements of this qualification.
  • This Qualification is available via full-time study or flexible delivery.
  • The flexible delivery is only currently available to students who are working in the industry and includesa support class once per week for two hours. Overall the course will require you to be in your workplace for at least 18 hours per week in addition to the time in class and the time you spend at home or the library completing assignments.

This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge you would have gained in Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate III in Aged Care. You can also use this qualification to pursue a nursing degree if you apply for the Mandurah Nursing Combo.
