This qualification reflects the role of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people working to provide a range of clinical primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities, including specific health care programs, advice and assistance with, and administration of, medication.

This qualification addresses the specific legislative responsibilities of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners and is required for national registration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia.

The course is delivered on a mixed method approach with a combination of face to face trainer led sessions which will involve group activities, case studies, scenarios and clinic/work placements. Clinic/work placements will provide the opportunity to observe, learn and demonstrate the new skills. Students will be provided with module materials which include learning information, assessment workbooks and activities, and clinic placement record books. Student will sign a Student Placement Agreement.

This qualification has 14 core units and 7 Elective units, these will be delivered over a 24-month period

The course runs for a total of 1675 Nominal hours with block training hours reflecting the complexities of block modules.

The training modules are organised into weekly study/learning blocks, with one week of theory followed by practical skills-based training.

Delivery location: Theory component is conducted at Nindila Training Centre 14 MacDonald Street Kalgoorlie.

Wirraka Maya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is the first Aboriginal Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in the Pilbara region. We aim to be actively involved in improving employment opportunities through training in health and community services. We provide training for students in and around Pilbara region.

This program falls under Priority Industry Training. The training is delivered in 2 weeks block over a period of 1 year ( excluding school Holidays). A cluster of units are delivered within these blocks. The students will have to complete 21 units and 7 electives to complete the course.

Wirraka Maya also provides other support services including meals voucher/ meals to students during training. Also provides accommodation, Transport, child care assistance and counselling service. The students are eligible for Abstudy. We also support Local students in clinical placement.
