A new 24-month Class B traineeship for the Certificate III in Pet Grooming will soon be available at South Metropolitan TAFE. This new traineeship can provide the skills and experience you need to start your career in this fast growing industry.
A pet groomer carries out bathing, brushing, trimming and other basic services for domestic pets – usually dogs and in some cases cats. These services can be provided either in a salon, via a mobile service or in a client's home – they are also often offered at veterinary clinics, pet shops and kennels.
Pet grooming services are becoming more in demand, and so are employees with skills and experience. The industry found pet owners, salon owners and other pet businesses were finding it difficult to find experienced groomers, with skilled groomers booked out months in advance.
The Dog Groomers Association of Western Australia called for the creation of the traineeship pathway to create entry-level job opportunities, improve industry standards and protect pet owners from untrained operators.
