As part of the Skills Ready program, another fee-free short course has been launched today to build a pipeline of skilled workers and support the State's economic recovery.
The new Introduction to Production Horticulture skill set will prepare workers for entry level roles in horticulture. WA grows a diverse range of top-quality horticultural crops including tropical and temperate fruits, delicious vegetables and outstanding table wines. This new skill set covers safe work practice in the horticultural industry; and the skills and knowledge to either plant or harvest horticultural crops, depending on the season and location.
The Western Australian horticulture industry is a significant employer in regional and remote communities and the new short course will provide relevant skills for those looking to work in the billion dollar industry. It is fee-free for people aged 15 to 24, concession students and displaced workers.
Several job ready and infection control short courses were rolled out in July. There have been more than 2,350 enrolments in those skill sets, highlighting the demand for free short courses to help displaced workers and young people get into jobs.
