If you’d like to get started as a wool handler or sheep shearer, the Wool Handling Skill Set is the ideal way to get the skills you need.

You’ll learn about working as part of a wool production team including penning, preparing facilities for shearing, crutching, and monitoring the welfare of sheep to industry standard animal welfare requirements and how to use a range of machinery and equipment related to sheep shearing.

You’ll also learn how to handle wool and fleece for production, including pressing and classing.

Get started as a wool handler or a shed hand by studying the Wool Handling Skill Set.

You will learn how to assist shearing teams and prepare fleece wool for classing as well as how to carry out wool pressing.

Participants will also learn a range of shed duties including penning sheep, preparing facilities for shearing and crutching and monitoring the welfare of sheep.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following units:
