Further your skills in developing services and programs for the community.

You will gain the knowledge and skills to communicate and work effectively in the community services sector, promoting social, emotional and physical wellbeing, responding to critical situations, responding to children at risk, assisting collective action, working with cultural diversity, ethical behaviour and legal responsibilities. This qualification will provide you with a range of practical skills and knowledge that will assist you in interventions with clients and the implementation of health promotion.

You will gain skills in:

  • Communicating at an advanced level
  • Understanding behaviour of clients
  • Training and group work
  • Designing programs for accessibility
  • Enhancing community participation
  • Gathering, maintaining and providing information
  • Understanding legal and ethical requirements, and
  • Advocating effectively.

At this level, you may obtain work which is autonomous with limited responsibility within established parameters and may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams. Work may take place in a range of community service, case work or case management contexts.

This qualification reflects the role of workers who develop and facilitate programs for young people through a range of community-based programs designed to address the social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs of young people.

This work may be undertaken through employment in community, government and youth sector agencies and workers will be:

  • responsible for implementing policies and guidelines of the employing organisation
  • largely self-directed with fairly autonomous decision-making capacity under the indirect supervision of a manager.
